If you’re looking for a special wine to uncork on Tuesday but don’t fancy the bubbly, we recommend picking up a wine from David O’Reilly. He makes wines under his namesake O’Reilly’s label, his higher end Owen Roe label and his fun, one-off Murphy’s Law label. A true craftsman, David makes fantastic wines full of depth and complexity. But don’t just take our word for it. Dottie and John, wine scribes for our local paper (the Wall Street Journal) were recently loving on David, calling his Ex-Umbris Syrah 2006 “delicious” and awarding it “best value” of a Washington State syrah tasting. We sold out of the 2006 Ex-Umbris so if you are one of the lucky few who snagged a bottle and haven’t opened it yet, now’s the time. Of course you can’t go wrong trying one of David’s other wines. Of the reds, the WSJ singled out his pinot noir as “excellent” but it would also be appropriate to try his Abbot’s Table (an inclusive wine that features 10 different grapes) or his Murphy’s law red. If you’re a white drinker, try his Pinot Gris 2007. Descriptions of the wines on the links.
