With the current warm, summery weather predicted to last through Wednesday, we thought it would be a good time to let you know what rosés we’re drinking.
In Brooklyn over the weekend, we splurged and enjoyed Christian Lauverjat’s Sancerre Rosé 2008 ($20.50). Peach in color, pinot noir grapes make it light and vivacious with mineral undertones and subtle strawberry fruit. We may have also found our go-to food-friendly pink drink: the Chateau de Roquefort Corail Rosé 2008 ($16.50) from Provence. Located on the edge of the prestigious Bandol appellation in France, this tiny domaine produces a classic provençal rosé with strawberry and raspberry fruit, lively acidity and a clean finish.
In Manhattan, Seth reports that he is viewing the current recession through rosé-colored glasses because has been able to find some great deals on pink wine. For example, the Antichi Vigneti di Cantalupo ‘Il Mimo’ Rosato 2007 nebbiolo rosé that was so popular last year (you’ll remember the mask on the label) still has the ripe strawberry fruit and peppery spice we so enjoyed but because of price reduction at the distributor, we are able to offer it a dollar cheaper at $13. Be aware not all 2007 rosés are still drinking well – Seth’s keeping his eye out for more bargains in the vintage and we’ll let you know as we find them!
If you’re looking in the under $10 range, once again this year, you can find Laurent Miquel’s Syrah/Cinsault blend from the Languedoc – an easy drinking rose that comes in at just $9 – in both the Brooklyn and Manhattan stores.
For now (& while the weather lasts), think pink!
