“Best bargain of the year”, prices that are “just sick” and “so reasonable you’d be crazy not give it a shot.” Hunh? We almost did a coffee spit take seeing (and hearing) the hyperbole of a Black Friday electronics store ad in John Brecher and Dorothy Gaiter’s WSJ article on Chilean reds from the Carmenere grape. With the WSJ swooning that the wines conjured images of “roast meats and fireplaces,” we sensed a ‘buy the case’ kind of deal for the winter and holiday entertaining season. We’re happy to report we tracked down the remaining cases of BOTH the Best of Tasting Wine and the Best Value Wine just for Greene Grape customers. If you’re planning a holiday party or know someone who is, you gotta try these wines.

The Best of Tasting Terra Andina Reserva 2007 ($14) got raves as “relaxed, earthy and warming” with “black pepper and green pepper, roasted fruits and a long, meaty finish” and the Best Value Cono Sur Carmenere 2008 ($10) is “Rich, round, peppery and lively, with ripe, dark fruits and surprising acidity. Soft enough for easy enjoyment, but with plenty of verve, too.”
