Dottie called this “a wine of conviction.”) Then the 2007 vintage of our favorite Chateauneuf-du-Pape producer, Domaine Monpertuis ($45), won Best of Tasting AND Best Value in yesterday’s New York Times (“Powerfully fruity, yet fresh and taut with persistent mineral flavors.”) Even better, Eric Asimov said the 2006 Monpertuis Chateauneuf-du-Pape ($39), which we also have, was superior to the 2007 to his palate – a lighter, more refined wine. And we were able to pull a champagne coup by getting our hands on 3 cases of the WSJ’s Best of Tasting grower champagne, Roger Coulon ‘Tradition’ ($50) (“the rare Delicious! wine – that is, a wine that is not only tasty but truly exciting . . . this is the kind of wine you could give to or serve to a wine lover and have a friend for life.”)
Needless to say, we are in the mood to celebrate.
