Join us tonight, Friday May 21 from 5-7pm to taste a $19 Pinot Noir that is sold at the winery for twice the price.
The global recession has been kind to wine consumers. With a decline in higher end wine purchases there is now a lot of quality juice on the market. Wineries in the Santa Lucia Highlands of the Central Coast of California known for their quality Pinot Noir can command upwards of $40 for their wines and still sell out quickly. This should have been especially true for the 2008 vintage which had stellar weather conditions. However, a slowdown in demand for wines at a premium price point meant that many wineries were faced with the prospect of eroding their price point or having to sell their juice on the bulk market.
Into this picture steps a man named Chad Alexander who realized an opportunity to pay the growers more than bulk price but still be able to offer these wines at great value – 1/2 off what the wineries charge for the same wine.
We brought in a limited amount of the Chad Pinot Noir 2008 – this medium-bodied red is like a bowl of ripe cherries with stony, earthy underpinnings. $19 a bottle, $17.10 on purchases of 12 or more.
